"Blind" White Buffalo Gift Exchange

Please bring a family appropiate "cutely" wrapped gift (strange and unusual encouraged!) that costs no more than $10.
The gift exchange will be among the people sitting at your dinner table.

Rules: (if a table wishes to deviate, that's OK)

  • Basics:
Don't unwrap any of the gifts until the end. Adds an element of mystery to the game by keeping all the gifts wrapped until the last person takes their turn. You still steal each other's wrapped gifts, but you have no idea what's actually inside until you're stuck with it. Expect a lot of laughter when everybody opens their gift and realizes it isn't what they guessed it would be. Prank wrapping your gifts makes this variation really funny!
  • Instructions:
Each participant supplies one wrapped gift, value $10 max. Decide who at your table will go first! The first person selects a wrapped gift but does NOT open it, and the turn ends. On subsequent turns, each person has the choice to either select a new present or to "steal" another's wrapped gift. When a person's gift is stolen, that person can either choose another wrapped gift to open or can steal from another player. Each gift can only be stolen twice. The game is over when everyone has a present. The person that went first can have one more change to swap.

Everyone who has had a turn must have a gift. For example, if you took the first turn and your gift was stolen, you must select another gift. As the game goes on, stealing gifts turns into swapping gifts, so everyone should have a gift at any given time. So, if you take Sally's fancy wrapped box, you've got to fork over your plainly wrapped box to her.
